THAGC – January updates – online match – website – registration
We had originally planned a shoot for 1/13 but we need to clear a path between the wooded course and the other course. If we can nock this out this winter it will be a great benefit to getting us ready for the Nats in October.
THAGC 2nd ANNUAL EURO MATCH
PLEASANT HILL, NC
11/18/17
Chris Corey was the match director and set a 50 target, 25 lane course up over many hours of dedicated work. He repainted each of the targets per WFTF rules and set them according to WFTF rules. Time was limited to three minutes per lane, two targets per lane, and one shot per target. Chris set out 4 kneeling and 6 standing shots over the course.
As in any WFTF rules match, there is a great number of far targets with full kill zones and that was the case on Saturday.
What Chris had no way of knowing is that Saturday would feature something on the order of 14mph winds and 20mph gusts!
Saturday started off cool and sixteen shooters came in from Florida, Georgia, Virginia, South Carolina, North Carolina and Maryland. THAGC sincerely appreciates shooters traveling to our events from such distances. Frank Mendola came up a few days before and Jimmy helped him set his scope up for FT. Little did Frank (or the rest of us) know that the conditions would make this course anything but new-shooter friendly.
After sight in and squading the match started. Robert and Curt ran into gear problems and had to DNF.
Most of the time the wind was left-to-right but due to the crossed targets we would sometimes have a something like a 90 degree arc between two targets in one lane, so the wind challenge was a constant challenge and while there were lulls, they sometimes would not fall during the time we had on the timer. Also part of the course was more exposed to the wind from an open field.
Targets had numbers beside them and were shot in order.
Chris did some devious things with target placement. You had to pay close attention to target numbers and make sure you were not shooting a target on another lane.
With a traditional AAFTA setup I never run into timer issues. With only three minutes and the readjustment necessary in some of the lanes, there were a few times I’d not get the shot off until the last second.
As you can see from the scores, the WFTF guys were the largest division and were shooting well in the wind. Doug Vinson took home high score with Ron and Keith right on his heels.
I was squaded with Will Piatt who is always a pleasure to shoot with. He took a three or four shot lead on me early on and was able to stretch it out to five by the end of the match, winning Open PCP with the only score in the 40’s for the day.
Jimmy and John won Unlimited and Hunter, respectively, and Frank was awarded the new shooter prize and accolades for this being his first FT match.
I was happy to give Will his Open GP trophy I brought back from Arizona for him.
Overall I think everyone had a fun and challenging time and it was good to see everyone.
