This was the first match of the 2023 season! It was WINDY and cold all day. The temp wasn’t that bad but the wind and the dampness had us all questioning our sanity.

We planned to set up the gas line course. It’s mostly wide open ground. We’ve been shooting in the woods and I thought the change would be good. YEAH RIGHT!

I pulled in a hour early at 8:15 to get a jump on the setup as the course has been idled waiting for the gas company to come thorugh and mow. I’ll be damned if Ro wasn’t already there, and thank god he was as it took longer than I’d planned to reset a few targets and he saved our bacon, keeping us on time.

That was the most ferocious wind I’ve seen on the open course in the last five years. It was variable in both speed and direction. The best I could do was make a guess, shoot, and hope my follow up shot was fast enough to use the same hold off. It worked most of the time but the first shot was often a miss. If I’d have been shooting a WFTF match in England I’d have been crushed.

Philip did an amazing job with a 41, the top score. The rest of us mortals were hangin on by the eyelids. Ro was working with a new rifle and scope combo. After the match we chronied him at 685 fps. UGH, Ro is a guy who doesn’t shy away from a challenge, but that was nuts LOL.

Best Regards
