Match Report
Eighteen shooters attended the Tar Heel Airgun Club’s NC State matchg this year. The match was held a Will & Ginger Piatt’s farm in the mountains near the Blue Ridge Parkway in Ennice, NC. Twenty five shooters registered from seven states, with five states represented in the final count. Shooters drove up to eight hours one way to make the match, likely because it was the site of the 2015 US Field Target Nationals. Or maybe because after the quarantine, we’re all looking for an excuse to get out of the house.
The weather threatened rain, but Will decided to hold the match rain or shine. As it turned out, it was raining hard at 6am, pretty much quit raining for the match, and then resumed rain immediately at the end of shooting. It had not quit as of Sunday afternoon!
Winds were calm to occasional short gusts to 15 mph that could be waited out. Competition was fierce with at least 5 National Champs competing and several other hungry future national champs posting top scores.
After the match shooters were treated to a hearty lunch of Shepherd’s Pie, in contrast to the Arizona Founder’s Cup match where a cow pie was passed around.
